Celestial Fable
2017
Computer generated poem
Dimensions variable

Celestial Fable is a computer-generated poem which responds to Alison Knowles’s work The House of Dust (1967), which is one of the first computerized poems on record. Through Celestial Fable, Shi considers “Celestial” as a metaphor for “form”, and asks: What are its materials? When/Where is it happening? How does it feel? Then the artist designs a framework where only certain components are randomly filled by grammatically appropriate words. One element from four categories will meet each other randomly and generate a serial poem endlessly to describe different natural phenomenons. Celestial Fable is part of the ongoing project Planet Chronicle, which includes digital poetry, sound installation and simulation.
